What is a Brow Lift?
Brow lift surgery (sometimes known as a forehead lift or browplasty) is a popular plastic procedure that creates a lifted brow and makes the top portion of your face look younger. Sometimes, a sagging brow can cause a tired or angry appearance. To rejuvenate your face, brow lifts treat a drooping brow by removing excess skin from the forehead and lifting the eyebrows. Dr. Jerry Chidester, or Dr. Chiddy, is an experienced plastic surgeon in Draper, UT who has performed browplasties to help patients turn back the hands of time. To produce a smoother and softer complexion, Dr. Chiddy often combines dermal fillers, wrinkle relaxers, and brow lift surgery to enhance patients' results.

Is A Brow Lift For You?
As we begin to age, skin elasticity starts to decrease and causes various portions of the face to sag and develop wrinkles or lines. These cosmetic concerns may also happen to patients who feel stressed or because of facial muscle tension. Good candidates for brow lift surgery may have certain signs, including
- Forehead lines
- Heavy brow(s)
- Frown lines in between the eyebrows
- Deep folds near your nose
In the expert hands of Dr. Chiddy, brow lift surgery can provide effective results and address your cosmetic concerns.
How Is A Brow Lift Performed?
Before your surgery, Dr. Chiddy will use anesthesia to ensure you remain comfortable. We may use general anesthesia or IV sedation, depending on the nature of your procedure and the techniques we use. Dr. Chiddy will consider several factors when selecting the best type of incision. He will assess the severity of your sagging skin, determine if the forehead is affected, and review the position of your hairline. Based on your needs, we will consider many incision types:
- Traditional Incision
Also called the open browplasty incision, this puts the incision behind the hairline at the top of the head. This incision not only conceals scarring, but it also provides a certain degree of controlled lifting during the procedure. This type of incision works well for those with both a sagging brow and frown lines. The traditional brow lift is the preferred method for patients who are at risk of having a receding hairline. - Trichophytic Incision
This incision is made right against the patient's hairline. It permits significant lift in the brow for men and women who have a low risk for hairline recession. - Lateral Brow Lift
Also called a temporal browplasty, the lateral technique starts the incision in the hairline just over the temples. A temporal incision allows the outer sections of the brow to be raised and is best for sagging that appears in the outer brows. It also helps to smooth Crow’s feet. - Endoscopic Forehead Lift
The endoscopic lift is a more modern technique used in a brow lift. This method makes multiple small incisions beyond the hairline and inserts a tool known as an endoscope, which moves to the eyebrow to release its attached tools. Through the camera of the endoscope, the brow tissue is suspended using stitches to lift the brow in its higher position.
What to Expect After A Brow Lift
The recovery period after brow lift surgery can vary. When compared to the endoscopic or temporal techniques, patients may experience the most discomfort and swelling after a traditional incision technique. For all incision types, patients will experience swelling and bruising in the upper part of the face, near the brows, and sometimes around the eyes. After their surgery and for 3 – 4 nights, Dr. Chiddy recommends using cold compresses to reduce inflammation and sleeping with propped up pillows underneath the head. To ensure the treatment area heals properly, we highly recommend avoiding any activities or movements that can place pressure on your face. Typically, it takes about 2 – 3 weeks to recover from a brow lift. Once the brow has completely healed, your complexion should look softer, more alert, and rejuvenated.
Brow Lift FAQ
How much does a brow lift cost?
It's better to focus on finding a skilled surgeon, like Dr. Jerry Chidester (or Dr. Chiddy), who can give you the results you want rather than going with the cheapest surgeon. The cost of brow lift surgery will depend on the technique used, the facility fee, anesthesia, and other factors. When your treatment plan has been created in your consultation, cost estimates can be discussed. Dr. Chiddy can also go over payment methods and how to find low-interest medical financing so your surgery is easier to afford.
Do I need a brow lift or facelift?
Whether you need a facelift or brow lift will depend on your goals and where you have excess skin. You should candidly discuss your wants with Dr. Chiddy so he can help you choose which treatment is best for you. Some patients who come in wanting a facelift discover they would be better with a brow lift and vice versa. Due to Dr. Chiddy's extensive experience, he can confidently help you create your unique treatment plan so you get the results you want.
What about nonsurgical treatments?
You may consider one of the many nonsurgical options, such as laser skin tightening and injectables (like JUVÉDERM® and BOTOX®), that can provide some improvements. However, brow lift surgery is better if you want significant improvements and longer-lasting results. In your consultation, Dr. Chiddy can go over both your surgical and nonsurgical choices so you can decide which is best for you.
What technique should I choose?
Dr. Chiddy will explain surgical techniques during your consultation so you know the advantages of each. He will then help you decide on the technique that best meets your needs and goals. A few of the factors that may influence your choice are your hairline (factoring in both your current hairline as well as your risk of future recession), the degree of skin sagging, and the recovery time available.
Will my results look natural?
When you have an experienced surgeon like Dr. Chiddy, your brow lift will appear natural. He will create a treatment plan for your needs and goals, so you appear refreshed and younger, instead of tight or frozen. During your surgery, Dr. Chiddy will concentrate on removing excess skin. The remaining tissue and skin will be smoothed so your results don't limit your facial expressions or lift your eyebrows too high.
How long do the results of a brow lift last?
Results can last for many years, although the aging process will continue. Most patients experience long-lasting benefits from a brow lift, with noticeable improvements in the forehead and brow area. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including proper skin care and sun protection, can help prolong the results.
