What is Liposuction?
Despite a healthy diet and how much you exercise, you may still feel self-conscious by stubborn pockets of fat. Unfortunately, this may prevent you from feeling confident in yourself. To effectively eliminate fat from certain body parts, Dr. Jerry Chidester, or Dr. Chiddy, is proud to offer the latest treatments, like liposuction. VASER-assisted liposuction is a body contouring procedure that reduces fat from the flanks, tummy, buttocks, and thighs to produce a tighter figure. During your consultation at our Draper, UT office, Dr. Chiddy will assess problem areas and develop a treatment plan so you can attain your desired body goals. Located near the Greater Salt Lake City area, our team strives to help you look and feel your best.
"I Had a Amazing Experience - I did the mommy make over which included breast augmentation and a tummy tuck with the muscles being tightened and some liposuction. I am so happy with my results. The surgery went well my pain was well managed. Dr Chidester is amazing and very professional along with all his staff."- A. / RealSelf / Dec 11, 2018
"Dr. Chidester did a fantastic job on my mommy makeover. I had a breast augmentation (375 cc), lift, galaform, internal bra, liposuction on my flanks and back, and a tummy tuck. I drove from out of town and stayed in a nearby hotel for 5 days. I say him 24 hours after surgery and on day 5 to get my drains taken out. He has great bedside manner and his nurses are amazing. By day four, I was off all of the pain meds and only used Tylenol. By day 6, I felt good enough to go in a plane ride over the Grand Canyon. I am 8 weeks post op and am still in awe with the way my scars are healing. I am back to almost all of the activities I was prior to the surgery. No doubt.... the best experience you will have!!! I have no regrets and would do it all over again with Dr. Chiddy."- B.C. / Google / Feb 18, 2021
"Do Your Flanks the First Time! - I had a tummy tuck a year ago and decided to save costs and not do lipo on my flanks. I totally regretted it so I went back a year later and had that done. Makes such a difference if you're even slightly thinking about. I was worried about more scars, but Dr Chidester used scars I already had and the incisions are so tiny you can't even tell. I'm about 6 weeks out of recovery and I've been back to normal activity for awhile. My sides are still a little tender to the touch and I have some weird sensations, but it doesn't effect my daily routine. I still feel like there's swelling but I'm pretty sure it's normal to have some swelling at this point in recovery. Dr. Chidester is fabulous to work with and the only plastic surgeon I'll ever use!! Plus his staff, nurses, and even Sean the anesthesiologist make it such a smooth experience. They truly care about their patients and make you feel calm, comfortable, and educated through it all."- J. / RealSelf / Aug 29, 2019
"I could not be happier with my experience with Dr. Chiddy. From the consultation to procedure, everything was seamless. My results so far are phenomenal and my pain is very well controlled! I am so thankful I chose him for my mommy makeover, not a single regret! He is definitely worth the wait if you’re looking for a phenomenal experience!"- M.L. / Google / Mar 08, 2021
"Dr. Jerry is the Whole Package! - Dr Jerry has been the best doctor that I have ever worked with. From the ease of his bedside manner to his professionalism to his skills as a doctor, he is incredible. I actually booked with another surgeon and paid a deposit but after meeting Dr. Jerry, I knew I had to change my surgeon and go with him. He was amazing and I am so glad that he did my procedure. I can already see a difference in my legs and waist and there is still swelling, I can’t wait to see my final results"- L. / RealSelf / Aug 16, 2018
Is Liposuction For You?
Liposuction is a good treatment option for patients who maintain a healthy weight but have stubborn pockets of fat that are difficult to eliminate, even with a healthy lifestyle. Patients interested in liposuction should have taut skin because liposuction cannot treat loose or sagging skin. Additionally, liposuction is not a solution for weight loss. Females undergoing liposuction should have no plans to become pregnant because this may compromise their results. During your consultation, Dr. Chiddy will set realistic expectations.
VASER-assisted liposuction is performed as an outpatient procedure in our private AAAASF-accredited surgical suite. Compared to normal liposuction techniques, VASER-assisted liposuction creates a smaller incision and uses unique soundwaves to help dissolve the fat. To help keep you comfortable, a member of our team will administer general anesthesia. At the beginning of your procedure, Dr. Chiddy makes a punch-hole incision through the skin and inserts a cannula into the treatment spot. A cannula is a special tool that makes it easier to loosen and remove fatty tissue. After eliminating the fat, Dr. Chiddy will close the incision. Based on the number of sections treated, your surgery could take 1 – 3 hours. In a separate recovery area, your post-op nurse will help you manage any pain and look after your treatment areas until you are eligible for discharge.
What to Expect
Depending on the number of sections treated and the size of the treatment area, you may need to recover at home for about 1 – 3 weeks. Typically, patients experience some bruising and swelling for 1 – 2 weeks, and you will need to have your stitches removed in about 7 – 10 days after surgery. One of the most important things after undergoing surgery is to give your body a chance to heal and recover. Once you return to your daily routine, you will need to minimize stress and strenuous activity. To increase your strength and stamina, we recommend sticking to light workouts and going for walks. Please keep in mind that you may see some improvements soon after your surgery, but it takes 6 – 10 months until your new body shape and contour are attained.
How much does liposuction cost?
Your cost for liposuction varies based on the technique selected and how many areas are being addressed. During your consultation, Dr. Chidester will create your unique treatment plan based on your needs and goals. He will also take into consideration your budget. Once your plan is ready, estimated costs will be discussed. To make your surgery affordable, Jerry Chidester, MD Plastic & Hand Surgery accepts several payment methods, and we can help you find low-interest financing.
What about nonsurgical liposuction?
Thanks to modern advancements, there are several nonsurgical procedures to reduce fat. Some of the most popular methods are CoolSculpting®, UltraShape®, Vanquish, Liposonix, and KYBELLA®. While some of these nonsurgical procedures can help some patients reduce mild to moderate fat pockets, liposuction is best for most patients. Liposuction surgery delivers more dramatic and consistent results. Ask Dr. Chidester about nonsurgical liposuction in your consultation. He can explain the benefits of all your options and help you decide which is best for you.
What about cellulite and loose skin?
Surgical liposuction only corrects excess fat. If you have loose skin, Dr. Chidester may suggest combining liposuction with a lift surgery. Liposuction is often performed along with skin tightening surgery, such as a tummy tuck, arm lift, or thighplasty — to give you your best results. To correct cellulite, there are several minimally invasive and nonsurgical treatments, including Cellulaze, VelaShape®, VASER Shape®, and Venus Freeze™. In your consultation, tell Dr. Chidester about all your concerns like loose skin and cellulite so your best treatment plan is created.
Will I have scars after liposuction?
Since liposuction is an invasive surgery, incisions will need to be made and sutured. These will cause scars, but Dr. Chidester does his best to reduce their appearance. This starts with making thin incisions in the natural folds of your body or less visible areas. After your surgery, Dr. Chidester or a member of his team will teach you how to care for your incisions — so they heal flat and eventually fade.
Will my liposuction results last?
Before you have liposuction surgery, it is important to be prepared to maintain your results. While liposuction reduces the number of fat cells in an area, you can still gain and lose weight. Dr. Chidester suggests that you be at or near a healthy weight prior to liposuction. Afterward, it is best to stay within 5 – 10 pounds of your post-surgical weight. Getting pregnant after liposuction will also affect your results; however, another surgery like a mommy makeover can be performed to refresh your appearance.
Look Fit and Toned
Fat removal with liposuction offers patients the chance to have annoying fat eliminated almost immediately. Without the help of liposuction, it can feel frustrating to try and reduce stubborn pockets of fat. Based on your personal goals, Dr. Chiddy can recommend various procedure options and create a treatment plan. After receiving a treatment plan, our billing staff will provide information about the cost or financing with Prosper and Mountain America Credit Union. We invite you to contact our practice in Draper, UT, and schedule a private consultation with Dr. Chiddy.
