Mommy Makeover | Salt Lake City UT
You expected that having a child or children would be challenging for your figure, but you probably didn’t anticipate the permanence of some of those changes. Pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding create unique stresses on the body that can leave a new mother with deflated, sagging breasts and tummy, along with pockets of stubborn fat that seem nearly impossible to get rid of.
But you don’t have to settle for the sagging! A “mommy makeover” with Dr. Chidester can help restore your pre-baby shape and contour, and maybe then some. We invite you to contact our Salt Lake City practice today.
What is a Mommy Makeover?
A mommy makeover is simply a moniker for a combination of cosmetic surgeries that target the various areas affected most by pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. Dr. Chidester’s mommy makeovers typically include a breast lift (with or without augmentation), a tummy tuck, and liposuction. Additionally, some women seek out “vaginal rejuvenation,” or surgical procedures, to help restore their pre-pregnancy vulvovaginal anatomy.
Who Is A Good Candidate?
The entire process of having a child is physically taxing on your figure. The localized weight gain can stretch your abdominal skin and muscles to such a degree that they cannot return to their former degree of tautness. In fact, the abdominal muscles often separate, something known as “diastasis recti.” The increase in breast size, coupled with the stress of breastfeeding, can leave your breasts deflated, sagging, and with less overall volume. And for many moms, although they may have lost the baby weight, they can struggle with residual stubborn areas of fat, typically around the thighs, flanks, and abdomen, that are almost more stubborn than your newborn!
If these issues sound like your post-baby body, a mommy makeover could be a great way to love your child without hating your figure. The best way to figure out if you are a good candidate for a “mommy makeover” would be to meet in person with Dr. Chidester for your consultation! He will customize your experience to your needs and goals.

Cost of A Mommy MakeoverA mommy makeover in Salt Lake City can vary in cost, depending on what procedures are needing to be done. Typically, if a mommy makeover includes a breast augmentation, lift, and abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), it will run between $11k and $16k. It can vary based on the extent of tummy tuck needed, the extent of lift needed, and if any additional liposuction will be performed. I also perform vaginal rejuvenation at the same time as a mommy makeover procedure, if the patient is a candidate.
I’m still considering having another child, can I still have a mommy makeover?
During your consultation, Dr. Chidester will stress the importance of being absolutely sure that you are finished having children. Results achieved from your surgical procedure to help restore your previous shape would most likely be wiped out by another pregnancy and delivery.
How long after my final child should I wait before having a mommy makeover?
You probably would like to get your body back immediately, but Dr. Chidester advises patience for his potential mommy makeover patients. He recommends that anyone considering having a mommy makeover be finished with breastfeeding for at least three to six months. This allows the breasts to return to their normal cup size and for breastfeeding mothers to stop the production of milk.
Also, liposuction and tummy tucks are not meant to be weight-loss procedures, so patients should be within 10-15 pounds of their ideal weight to have a mommy makeover. Incorporating exercise into your lifestyle is also important so that you can maintain your results for the duration, as well as decreasing postoperative complications and speeding your recovery!
Why should I combine these procedures in a mommy makeover?
The thought of three cosmetic procedures in one surgical session can seem overwhelming. But the beauty of a mommy makeover with Dr. Chidester is that you have but one recovery period. For some women, staged surgery may be required, but this could be determined during your consultation with Dr. Chidester. Ultimately, safety is his number one priority with his patients followed closely by patient satisfaction.
What are the procedures involved in a mommy makeover?
A mommy makeover with Dr. Chidester usually involves these procedures:
- Tummy Tuck – A tummy tuck is the centerpiece of a mommy makeover. This surgery targets loose skin on the abdomen. An incision is made along the bikini line, usually from hipbone to hipbone. The underlying muscles, which have been separated by the distortion of pregnancy, are pulled together and sutured for a firmer abdomen and narrower waist. The skin is then pulled down and the excess is trimmed away. Depending on your situation, another incision can be made either through the belly button or in that area to address loose skin on the upper abdomen. If a good deal of skin is removed, it’s likely that Dr. Chidester will relocate the belly button.
- Breast Lift – To address hanging skin, a sagging breast and loss of volume, a lift brings the nipple areolar complex to a higher position on the chest, at the center of the breast where it was pre-pregnancy. The incisions required depend on the degree of sagging. Dr. Chidester may be able to accomplish the lift with an incision around the areola of each breast. But if more skin must be trimmed, the incision may extend down to the breast crease, and sometimes outward along that breast fold. If you seek to regain more volume for a deflated breast, you may opt to have augmentation along with your lift. The incisions for the lift would be used for placement of your implants.
- Liposuction – Stubborn pockets of fat in your abdomen, flanks and possibly your outer and inner thighs are the targets of the liposuction portion of your mommy makeover. This minimally invasive procedure uses a cannula inserted through a small incision to suction out pockets of unwanted fat and slim your contour. Dr. Chidester can also use liposuction when he is working through your tummy tuck. Dr. Chidester uses tumescent liposuction, where a liquid solution of saline combined with adrenaline and anesthetic is injected into the treatment areas to minimize bruising, blood loss, and to help loosen the fat for permanent removal.
What will my recovery be like?
Just as mommy makeovers vary widely depending on the patient, so do the recovery times. Your recovery will be predicated upon which procedures you’ve had in your makeover. Plus, because a tummy tuck involves repositioning muscles and a lengthy incision, it is typically considered the most involved part of your recovery. You’ll wear compression garments for around one month to minimize swelling and to help your body adapt to its new slimmer contour. You’ll also wear a wireless support bra for at least the first month so the incisions with your breast lift are not stressed at all. Full recovery from a mommy makeover can take up to six months. Most mommy makeover patients can return to a light level of activity in one to two weeks, but any strenuous exercise, particularly lifting, will have to wait at least six weeks.
When will I see my results?
You will have some swelling and bruising with a mommy makeover, but you’ll notice your results very quickly. You’ll notice that your breasts are higher on the chest and have projection once again. If you’ve had an augmentation, you’ll love the added volume or size of your breasts.
Your tummy will have a slimmer contour, especially if you had separated stomach muscles that were brought back to the center. Lastly, those pockets of stubborn fat will be gone.
These results are permanent. If you maintain a healthy weight and work to stay in relative good heath, you’ll love your new post-baby look!
Is a mommy makeover safe?
Mommy makeovers with Dr. Chidester are major surgery, so any of the usual risks involved with surgery are present, although rare. These include excessive bleeding, infection, reaction to anesthesia, and other surgical complications. Overall, the tummy tuck, breast lift, and liposuction are not considered high-risk procedures, and the experience of Dr. Chidester ensures you’ll love your final results!
